本幅畫太祖趙匡胤（927－976）身著淡黃色圓領大袖寬衫，腰繫玉裝紅束帶，腳穿皂紋靴，頭戴由軟翅幞頭改裝成方形硬胎的展翅烏紗帽。畫幅無作者款印，僅座椅的扶手空白處，以小紙浮貼，上書「宋太祖」三字。 畫史著錄，王靄、牟谷、僧道輝均曾為太祖寫真，但因無存世可靠畫跡堪供比對，並不能據以判定此像，是否與上述三人有關。院藏太祖像共四幅，除本幅為全身大軸，餘均為半身像。(20061206)

| 內容簡介 |
宋太祖趙匡胤(960~975在位)，宋代開國之君。涿郡人。生性孝友，有謀略。仕後周為殿前都檢點，歸德節度使。率軍拒契丹時，至陳橋驛，將士擁立，以黃袍加身，遂受周禪，登帝位國號宋，並平群雄，結束五代紛爭局面。本幅畫宋太祖黃袍、朱帶、幞頭。畫肖像必重形神，且中國人對皇帝的相貌特別有興趣，「帝相」的觀念，深植中國人心中。以宋代記錄，「太祖天表神偉，紫（王鬱）王而豐頤，見者不敢正視。李煜據江南，有寫御容至者，煜見之，日益憂懼，知真人之在御也。」此〈宋太祖像〉，其面容皮膚色就是紫（王鬱）。按《圖畫見聞誌》卷三載「今定力院太祖御容梁祖真像，皆出於王靄筆。」王靄京師開封人。惟本幅所畫是否出於王靄，待考。(王耀庭)

| Description |
This is a painting of Chao K'uang-yin (927-976), the first emperor of the Sung dynasty known as T'ai-tsu. Wearing a light yellow robe with a round collar and wide sleeves, a jade-decorated red belt girdles his abdomen and a pair of black decorated shoes adorns his feet. His hat is a stiffened horizontal black-gauze “wing” official's cap adapted from the rounded soft-wing version. This work bears no signature or seal of the artist, the only inscription being three characters for “Sung T'ai-tsu” appearing on a label attached to a blank area of the chair armrest. Records concerning painting indicate that such artists as Wang Ai, Mou Ku, and the monk Tao-hui all once did portraits of Emperor T'ai-tsu. Unfortunately, they do not survive for comparison and cannot be used to determine whether this portrait is related to any of these three artists. The National Palace Museum actually has four portraits of Emperor T'ai-tsu in its collection. Apart from this large full-length hanging scroll, the others are all half-length portraits.(20061206)
