| 內容簡介 |
蔣廷錫，江蘇常熟人（西元一六六九至一七三二），字揚孫，一字酉君，號西谷，南沙。歷官文華殿大學士，有政聲，未第時與顧雪坡遊，善寫生。在朝為官後，矜重不苟作，偶為一二，又為宮禁所寶，流傳真跡絕少。
本幅畫石榴，綠葉先以墨句，而後填彩，艷麗出塵，出枝布葉，有條不紊，更見構圖功力，蝴蝶畫法以煤煙，烏亮至極，配以朱斑，尤具醒目。

| Description |
Chiang T’ing-hsi, a native of Chiang-shu, Kiangsu, had Yang-sun and Yu-chun as his tzu (style name), and Hsi-ku and Nan-sha as his hao (sobriquet). He served as a Grand Secretary in the Wen-hua Hall. Before taking public office, Chiang was a good friend of Ku Hsueh-p’o and enjoyed painting from nature. But after becoming an official at court, he did not paint lightly as before. His rare paintings consequently came to be highly valued in the palace. And as he painted so rarely there remains only a few of his works.
This painting depicts pomgranetes, whose leaves are first outlined in ink and then added with color wash. The arrangement of the branches and leaves are both natural and well ordered, revealing the artist’s talented skill in composition. The application of a mixtue of soot and glue achieves the glossy black of the butterflies’ wings which are sparkled with eye-arresting red dots. The butterflies are simply charming.
