玉器

蒙兀兒帝國 西元16世紀至西元19世紀

全長44(含刃部)公分 寬9.6公分 最厚1.8公分

This weapon, known as a katar, was in broad use in the time of the Mughal Empire. Because of the great variety of knives and daggers at the time, for now we shall simply call it by the Romanized name. Its distinctive characteristics are its triangular blade and H-shaped handle made from two long, parallel posts connected with two cross-pieces. The user would grasp the cross-pieces and thrust forward. The handle of this katar is made from greenish-gray nephrite jade with lighter green ares, and it is covered with geometric, arabesque patterns made with gold-plated iron thread, rubies, spinels, garnets or glass, emeralds, and green crystal. Fullers run along both sides of the center spine of the iron blade, and near the hilt the blade is plated with a decorative piece of gilt bronze.
