This type of crutch in India is given to elderly people for support when they are seated on the floor. The chalcedony top end is carved into a shallow V-shaped handle, and on each end of the "V" there is a lifelike carving of a roaring lion. The main body of the crutch is made of pea-green nephrite jade with a carved corkscrew pattern. Along the length of the main body, spaced at even intervals, are carved bands of decorative leaf patterns and decorative gold thread and rubies.
