According to historical records, during the“Imjin War,” Japan invaded Korea and brought back to Japan a group of Korean ceramists, marking the beginning of Arita kiln, which produced Japan’s earliest porcelain wares. Arita wares imitated Chinese blue and white porcelain techniques and decorative styles, and gave rise to famous Japanese patterns such as kinrante. The large dish has curved wall. The body is exposed at the base of the ring stand. The dish features a carp leaping out of water under waterfall. This is the“Carp jumping over Dragon’s Gate”motif, also known in Japan as“Ariso pattern.”The outer wall features areas decorated with curly grass, flowers, and leaves. Inside the stand is a square multi-lined“fu (Luck)”mark within double-circles. The body is exposed at the stand. There are six nail marks at the bottom.
