明中期 景德鎮窯 青花新月形軍持
Crescent-shaped kendi with floral motif in underglaze blue, Ming dynasty

陶瓷器

明中期 約西元15世紀

長20.5公分 寬10公分 高15公分

The crescent-shaped kendi (vase) concaves down, with a garlic mouth and ribbed tubal handle at the center. The kendi is supported by four feet at the bottom. The two tips at equal height with the handle are capped by pointy hatshaped decorations. One side has a small injection mouth. The vessel is full of decorations in underglaze blue; from top to bottom are banana leaves, peony flowers, and clouds. The deformed lotus-petal pattern at the mouth can also be found on another vessel unearthed at a tomb site dating back to the Hongzhi period. This type of vase is called kendi, or kundica in Sanskrit, and was originally used by Buddhist believers in rituals. Later, kendi evolved and was used in Islamic rituals as well.
