錢穀，（西元1508-1578年）長州人，字叔寶，自號磬室。少孤失學，迨壯，遊文衡山門下，始得書讀之。以其餘力，點染水墨，山水蘭竹兼妙。
高桐百尺，枝葉茂密，兩童子一據高枝，一在地上，運桶水洗之。巨石孔竅奇突，襯於其後。雲林坐椅上督視，油然微笑，狀至怡悅。另一童持羽扇為雲林拂暑，筆墨厚重之甚。

| Description |
Ch’ien Ku was a native of Ch’ang-chou, Kiangsu. His style name was Shu-pao, and he called himself Ch’ing-shih. As he was an orphan, his schooling was neglected. Later, when he became a pupil of Wen Cheng-ming (1470-1559), he eagerly devoted himself to books, using only his spare time for painting.
A firmiana (Wu-t’ung) tree of hundred feet height lifts its luxuriant growth of leaves. Two servant boys prepare to wash it; one up in the tree reaching down for a bucket of water passed up by the other. A great ornamental rock, pierced with holes, protrudes abruptly behind. This painting illustrates the well-known anecdote of the Yuan painter Ni Tsan (1301-1374) attending to the washing of his favorite garden trees. He sits observing the ritual with head slightly raised and a smile as if in amusement. Another servant stands with a feather fan, presumably ready to cool him in the summer heat.
The brushwork is most dense and weighty.
