高劍父(西元一八七九-一九五一年),原名崙,字鵲庭,後改劍父,廣東番禺人。早年師事居廉(一八二八-一○四),曾留學日本,歸國後銳意革新,為嶺南派創始人。
高氏作畫,兼善山水、花鳥、走獸、人物。本幅為林宗毅先生捐贈,畫猛虎出山,於墨彩染暈之際,已突破傳統格局,特重立體及氣氛掌握,饒有日本畫風的特質。款云:癸未初秋作于春睡畫院,劍父。鈐印:高崙之鈢。

Kao Chien-fu (original name Lun, style name His-t’ing) was a native of P’an-yu, Canton. As a youth, he learned painting from Chu Lien (1828-1904) and also studied art in Japan. After his return to China, his innovative techniques and subject matter led to a reappraisal of art as he became known as the founder the Ling-nan School.
Kao Chien-fu was gifted at painting landscapes, birds-and-flowers, animals, and figures. In this painting donated to the Museum by Mr. Lin Tsung-i, a ferocious tiger emerges from the hills. Using washes of ink and color, Kao has broken away from the confines of traditional techniques to create a scene where form and atmosphere are handled in a naturalistic and convincing manner similar to that practiced in Japan at the time. His inscription states that it was painted in the early autumn of 1943 at the Ch’un-shui Painting Academy.
