張爰（西元一八九九〜一九八三年），號大千，原名權，後改名爰，字季爰。自幼從母習畫，及長遊於李瑞清（一八六一至一九三○年）、曾熙（一八六七至一九二○年）之門。抗戰期間，前往敦煌臨摹壁畫，藝事日進。
本幅筆墨變化自傳統，佈局自畫面下方即迫近觀者，山勢漸次上昇，雲氣相間，引人入勝，至上方隱微屋舍及近畫緣飛瀉而下的瀑布。設色用赭石與花青，而以冷色調為主。大千作於民國六十四年。
蔣復璁先生捐贈於民國六十五年。

Chang Yuan (sobriquet Daqian [Dai-chien], original name Quan [later changed to Yuan], style name Jiyuan) studied painting from his mother in childhood, also becoming a student of the artists Li Ruiqing (1861-1930) and Zeng Xi (1867-1920). During the Sino-Japanese War, Chang traveled to Dunhuang and copied wall paintings there, greatly advancing his artistic skills.
The transformations of brush and ink in this painting derive from those of tradition. The arrangement goes from the lower part of the painting to press up against the viewer, the mountains extending gradually upwards amongst the clouds and mists. It succeeds in bringing the viewer into the composition to the hidden buildings in the upper part and the cascade that falls downwards. The ochre and cyanine coloring are mostly done in cool hues. Chang Dai-chien did this work in 1975.
Mr. Chiang Fu-ts'ung donated this painting to the National Palace Museum in 1976.

張爰（1899-1983）、號は大千、本名は權、後に爰に改名、字は季爰。幼少の頃から母に絵を習い、李瑞清（1861-1930）、曾熙（1867-1920）に師事した。抗戦期間中に敦煌で壁畫の臨模に取り組み、畫技に磨きをかけた。
本作には伝統的な筆墨の変化が見られ、構図は畫面下方から間近に迫ってくるようである。山並みが層をなして上方へと連なり、山間に雲霧たなびく美景が観る者を魅了し、その上に微かに見える家屋や水しぶきをあげて流れ落ちる瀑布に至る。著色には赭石と花青を用いて寒色を主としている。民國64年（1975）の作。
民國65年（1976）蔣復璁氏寄贈。
