| 內容簡介 |
傅抱石（西元一九○四－一九六五年），江西新喻人。擅畫山水、人物，亦工篆刻，有印譜傳世。所繪人物早期追求顧愷之古樸情趣，筆法綿密圓勁，後取法陳老蓮之造型和石濤之意態，相互融匯，形成老辣中見瀟灑，飄逸中寓深沉之藝術風貌。
畫中仕女案前彈箏，女子髮髻作數筆濃墨而有層次，以寫意筆法作白描衣紋，線條流暢，全幅筆簡意遠，娟秀雅致。

Lady Playing an Instrument
Fu Pao-shih (1904-1965)
Republican Period
Fu Pao-shih was a native of Hsin-yu, Kiangsi, who excelled at painting landscapes and figures as well as carving seals, a subject about which he wrote a manual. Early in his career he followed the archaicly simple style of Ku K’ai-chih (ca. 344-ca. 406) for his figure painting, resulting in his brushwork becoming detailed and strong. Later, he took the exaggerated forms of Ch’eng Hung-shou (1559-1652) and the inspiration of Shih-t’ao (1642-1707) to combine the two and form a style mature yet fresh and solid yet lofty.
In this painting, a lady stands in front of a table playing a stringed instrument. Her hair has been rendered quickly with several layers of dark brushstrokes. Sketchy brushwork has been used for the clothes done in outline manner. The strokes flow downward to give this work a simple yet elegant appearance.
This work was donated to the Museum by Mr. Tsai Ch’en-nan.
