黃山舊名「黟山」，唐代天寶年間改定今名，山勢奇偉，跨越安徽省歙縣、黟縣、太平、休寧四地。相傳黃帝、容成子、浮丘公曾在山中煉丹藥，故有煉丹臺遺跡。此幅黃山圖為蔡辰男先生捐贈本院收藏，畫丹臺隱秘於山巒之中。作者黃賓虹（一八六五－一九五五），本名質，號賓虹，安徽歙縣人，曾經九次登臨黃山，繪畫初學陳春帆，後進一步從傳統中探索筆法墨法，追求筆墨渾厚華滋的意境。

The I Mountains were changed in name to the present Huang (“Yellow”) in the T’ien-pao era (742-755). The unusual formations of these peaks extend across She-hsien, I-hsien, T’ai-p’ing, and Hsiu-ning in Anhwei. It is said that the legendary Yellow Emperor (so the name), with Jung-ch’eng-tzu and Fu- ch’iu-kung, concocted the elixir of immortality, hence a site known as Tan-t’ai (Alchemist’s Terrace). This work, donated by Mr. Ts’ai Chen-nan, shows Tan-t’ai hidden among the peaks. The artist Huang Pin-hung was a native of She-hsien, Anhwei, and traveled to the Huang Mountains nine times. His early style followed that of Ch’en Ch’un-fan, and later he went further back to other styles, pursuing a realm of brush and ink that is simple yet rich.
