樹葉，漸漸由綠而轉紅。牧童捧著蟋蟀罐，手中拿著草逗著，引著蟋蟀相鬥斲。地上還有一段竹管，那是在捕捉蟋蟀時臨時裝蟋蟀用的。通常小孩們捕捉了蟋蟀，都使新捕到的與舊有的相鬥斲，來試驗牠們的戰鬥斲力。存強汰弱，用瓦罐分別豢養，一有機曾，便和別人鬥斲輸贏。牧童，一面放牧，一面抓蟋蟀，這是農村兒童生活的一面。有「璐王之寶」、「儀周珍藏」、「延之心賞」三收藏印。

| Description |
The leaves are gradually changing from green to red, while a cowherd plays with a cricket in a cage, teasing it with a piece of grass to make it fight. On the ground lies a length of bamboo into which the cricket had been put after capture. When Chinese children caught crickets, they would put two into a length of bamboo and let them fight. The weaker would be set free and the stronger put into a cricket cage. When the opportunity arose, two children would pit their prize crickets against each other. The combination of tending water-buffalo and hunting for crickets was one aspect of the life of young cowherds in rural China. This painting bears several collectors' seals, including those of An Ch'i of the 18th century.
