| 內容簡介 |
陳舒，江蘇華亭人，字原舒，號道山，順治己丑進士。善畫花鳥草蟲，在白陽青藤間，而設色淺深，尤饒士氣，山水亦疏秀。
此畫折枝辛夷、柳條，配以公雞、鯰魚。立意新穎，不拘常法，蓋為年節應景畫。取辛新鯰年雞吉諧音，新年大吉之意。

Good Wishes for the New Year
Ch'en Shu (fl.17th century)
Ch'ing Dynasty
Ch'en Shu came from Hua-t'ing in Kiangsu. His style name was Yuan-shu and his sobriquet was Tao-shan. In 1649,he received his chin-shih civil service degree. He was a good painter of flowers, birds, and insects, deriving his style from Ch'en Ch'un and Hsu Wei. However, in his use of ink tone, he was a master of literati art. His landscapes are uncluttered and elegant.
This painting depicts a few sprigs of willow with a cock and nien fish below. The means of expression are fresh and apt; the composition is not stilted by over-attention to a fixed method. The motifs of the painting are connected with the time of the year. The nien fish is a homophone of the word for 'year' and the cock is a homophone of the word for good luck. Thus, the painting expresses, symbolically, the hope for a lucky new year.
