文徵明（西元一四七○至一五五九年），江蘇長洲人。初名壁，字徵明，後以字行，又字徵仲，號停雲生、衡山居士。詩文書畫并佳，為明四大畫家之一，畫師沈周，而別有造詣，影響明朝晚期畫風甚鉅。 本幅寫蘭、竹於荒野荊刺叢莽間，頗具清致。選自文徵明畫扇冊。

| Description |
Orchid and Bamboo Wen Cheng-ming (1470-1559) Ming Dynasty Wen Cheng-ming was a native of Ch’ang-chou in Kiangsu province. Although his given name was Pi, he was best known under his sobriquet Cheng-ming. Another sobriquet was Cheng-chung. His style names were T’ing-yun-sheng and Heng-shan chu-shih. He excelled in all of the literati arts: poetry, prose, calligraphy and painting. He learned painting from Shen Chou and became one of the Four Masters of the Ming dynasty. His painting style has had a far-reaching influence on later Ming painters. By the countryside, orchids and bamboos grow out of the bushes of thorns. The painting is filled with tranquility and gracefulness. The leaf is from the album, Paintings of Wen Cheng-ming.
