文徵明（西元一四七○至一五五九年），江蘇長洲人。初名壁，字徵明，後以字行。亦字徵仲，號停雲生、衡山居士。詩文書畫並佳，畫師沈周，為明四大家之一。 羣山飛雪，千峰失翠，行人騎驢橫渡冰上。畫雪景以設色法為之，用青、用綠、烘染得法，真可謂紙精筆妙，為文氏得力之作。按嘉靖戊子（西元一五二八年）冬，文徵明與王寵同寓楞伽僧舍，雪飛近尺，寵因出佳紙索畫，徵明乘興濡毫，一時不能完成。嗣後攜歸，或作或輟，五易寒暑方完成。

Wen Cheng-ming was a native of Ch’ang-chou in Kiangsu. Although his given name was Pi, he is best known by his style name, Cheng-ming; his sobriquets include T’ing-yun-sheng and Hung-shan chu-shih. In painting, Wen followed the style of his teacher, Shen Chou. Noted for his consummate skill in painting and calligraphy, Wen Cheng-ming is considered one of the Four Great Masters of the Ming Dynasty. Amidst clusters of mountains and fluttering snow, travellers astride donkeys cross the iey Aurface of a river. This rendition of winter was accomplished by the application of paint to represent snow, and its contours are described in green, blue and black washes. According to records, in the winter of 1528, Wen and Wang Ch’ung so journed for a time in the Leng-chia monastery. Wang produced paper for Wen, asking him to paint for him. Unable to finish during that time, Wen took the scroll with him, working on it now and then, finally completing it five years later.

Wen Zhengming, native to Changzhou, Jiangsu, had the given name Bi but was known by his style name Zhengming; his sobriquets included Tingyunsheng and Hengshan jushi. Excelling at poetry, calligraphy, and painting, Wen followed the style of his teacher, Shen Zhou, to become one of the Four Ming Masters.
Amidst clustered peaks and fluttering snow in a scene devoid of greenery appear travelers astride donkeys as they cross a frozen river. This snowscape was rendered using colors, the contours described in blue, green, and ink washes. With its marvelous brushwork on beautiful paper, this work is truly a masterpiece of Wen Zhengming's.

文徵明（1470-1559）、江蘇長洲の人。本名は壁、字は徵明、または徵仲、後に字で知られるようになった。號は停雲生、衡山居士。詩文、書畫ともに優れ、沈周を師とした。明四大家の一人。
降り積もった雪に覆われた連山。雪化?した山々に綠は少なく、ロバに乘った人物が氷の上を渡っている。他の景物に著色することによって雪景色が描かれており、青や綠などの色で雪の白さが表現されている。これぞ正しく筆墨の妙技だと言える、文徵明の力作。
