趙孟頫(西元一二五四至一三二二年),字子昂,自號松雪道人,為宋宗室,湖州(今浙江吳興)人。宋亡,入仕元,累官至翰林學士,死後,追封魏國公,諡文敏。天資聰穎,詩文清邃奇逸,畫入神品,書法尤稱一世,篆、籀、分、隸、真、行、草,無不冠絕古今。而以小楷為第一。虞集稱其「楷法深得洛神賦而攬其標,行書詣聖教序而入其室,至於草書,飽十七帖而變其形,可謂書之兼學力天資,精奧神化而不可及矣」。蓋其書臨古功力極深,風骨秀逸,天機爛漫,能造王羲之父子之堂奧。

Chao Meng-fu was from Wu-hsing, Chekiang. His style name was Tzu-ang, his sobriquet Sung-hsueh tao-jen. Although he was a member of the Sung royal house, he entered the administration of the succeeding Yuan dynasty. He became a member of the Han-lin Academy and was given the title "Duke of Wei". He was also honored with the posthumous title Wen-min. Chao's natural abilities are evident in his poetry and essays. He is also one of the great painters of Chinese art history, and his calligraphy is unsurpassed. He demonstrated equal facility in seal, clerical, standard, semi-cursive, and cursive styles, but his greatest achievements were in the small standard script. Chao Meng-fu was always conscious of the importance of past styles and strove to emulate their good points. In spite of this reliance on past models, the appearance of his written characters is innovative, full-bodied, and relaxed. He was able to build on the foundation laid by Wang Hsi-chih (321-379) and Wang hsien-chih (344-386) of the Chin dynasty.

趵突泉在山東濟南市舊城西門外。趙孟頫服官濟南時,常游憩於此地。趙孟頫詩文書畫樂律無不精善,書法則篆籀分行草書無不冠絕古今,早年學宋高宗,後取則王羲之王獻之,末後復學李邕。是唐以後書法的集大成者,對當時及後世影響很大。趙字以完全唯美的風格見稱。書趵突泉詩作於元成宗元貞元年(1295)十二月,為周密作鵲華秋色之頃。最晚不超過大德八年(1304)周密卒年之前。亦即四十二歲到五十一歲間的作品。元趙孟頫書趵突泉詩潤秀圓轉,這正是趙氏書風的特色,也是存世趙書中墨跡楷書罕見大字。案卷中有「右二題」,今僅存其一,可見卷前已有遺失。

趙孟頫(1254-1322)為趙宋宗室,字子昂,浙江吳興人。入元後一度鄉居避世,元世祖至元二十四年,始接受徵召出仕。其在濟南任官期間,遊覽當地勝景趵突泉,心中無限感慨見於詩文,如末句有云:「冰雪滿懷清興孤。」元貞元年(1295),濟南歸來之際,因老友周密祖籍山東,卻未曾到過故鄉,特別寫此詩卷相贈。全卷書法結字寬博,厚實的格調與其成熟階段靈逸秀美的書風不盡相同。(20110913)

Zhao Mengfu (style name Zi’ang), a member of the Song imperial family surnamed Zhao, was a native of Wuxing in Zhejiang. After the fall of the Song and rise of the Yuan, he went back to his hometown for a time to retire from the world. However, in 1287, Khubilai Khan, as the Yuan dynasty emperor of China, began recruiting scholars, including Zhao Mengfu. During Zhao’s tenure in office in Ji’nan, he had the chance to visit the scenic Baotu Spring there. The boundless emotions he felt at the time are found in his poetry, such as the last line that reads, “Ice and snow fill my heart with pure solitude.” In 1295, after coming back from Ji’nan, his old friend Zhou Mi, a native of Shandong who had never been to his ancestral hometown, so Zhao especially wrote this scroll of poetry as a gift. The character structure in the calligraphy throughout is expansive, the solid and strong manner differing completely from the style of his mature phase with its spirited and elegant beauty. 釋文:趵突泉。濼水發源天下無。平地湧出白玉壺。谷虛久恐元氣泄。歲旱不愁東海枯。雲霧潤蒸華不注。波瀾聲震大明湖。時來泉上濯塵土。冰雪滿懷清興孤。右二題皆濟南近郭佳處。公謹家故齊也。遂為書此。孟頫。
