內容簡介(英文) |
Hu P’ei-heng (named Heng but went by his style name), sobriquet Leng-an, was native to Chuo-hsien, Hopeh, and lived in Peking. In his early years, he copied Sung to Ch’ing dynasty works but later also studied Western painting. He made breakthrough contributions in his efforts in the three fields of the practice, research, and education in art.
The style of this work, donated by Mr. Lin Ch’eng-tao, is typical of Hu, the brushwork being thick and dense with ink dry and moist in places. The light ochre is covered with blue and green to give the woods a lush and verdant effect. Hoary and elegant, it borrows from the painting styles of literati artists from the 13th century onwards, reflecting much of the tradition at a single glance.
